• Where do I find things?

The Lansing Star Online is laid out like a conventional newspaper. We have sections of the papaer, including News, Sports, Around Town and others. Click on the section you want to read in the blue menu on the left of your screen.

If there are sub-pages in that section they will be displayed below the section you are currently viewing. For example, you will find Weather, Editorials and other pages in the "News" sub-menu.

  • Where do I find an old issue?

When a new issue is posted all the articles from the previous issue are placed in the Archive. Even though they are not arranged on the Star's regular pages there is still a way to find all the articles from a particular issue.

Each issue has a volume number and an issue number. To see the current issue's Volume and Issue numbers look on the Front Page just below the top banner advertisement.

To find old issues, use the Search feature. You will find the Search in two locations. A quick place to look is in the upper right corner of the Star. There is also a menu item for searching.

Type in v#i#, replacing the # sign with the numbers you want, and press Enter. For example, "v1i7" gives you Issue number seven from our first volume. "v1i1" will result in all the articles from our first issue.

  • I clicked on a menu item and was logged out!

Sometimes this happens. We don't know why.
Log back in again with your user name and password.

Download the LSO Cookie Resetter Now

If you are having trouble logging in to the Lansing Star Online, be sure your browser is enabled to accept cookies.

We know that some people don't like allowing cookies. The technology we use to display the paper requires them. We can assure you that we are not using them to collect information about you, but simply to validate your current log-in session.

Sometimes a cookie develops a problem, preventing log-in. If you are using Internet Explorer you can delete the LSO cookies using a little "Cookie Resetter" program. Download the program and run it, being sure to close Internet Explorer first. Then go back to lansingstar.com and try logging in again.

Alternatively you can go into your browser properties or options and delete cookies from there.

  • I have AOL and I can't stay logged in

There is a problem with AOL that we do not understand that prevents you from staying logged in. AOL does many strange and mysterious things!

But you can still log into the Star. If you use AOL's dialup, log into AOL. Then start the external Microsoft Internet Explorer (MSIE). Go to the Star in the MSIE window and it will work for you. If you have further problems, try the cookie resetter available for downloading on this page.

If you have broadband and AOL you do not need to start AOL to go to the Star. Just start your external browser and you will be all set.

If you do not want to use MSIE for some reason, we highly recommend the Firefox browser. So far we haven't had a single problem logging into the Star using Firefox.

  • I have a Mac and Safari returns Javascript Errors

Evidently Safari is an older browser without the capability to display more modern web pages. But you can still read the Star on your Mac. There are much more up to date browsers for the Mac including MS Internet Explorer (MSIE) and Firefox.

    Get MSIE for Mac

    Get Firefox for Mac

  • Nothing seems to be where it should be on the page.

Older browsers are not able to handle the newer web pages on our site and many other sites. To solve this problem, either upgrade your copy of Internet Explorer or try a different browser such as Firefox, a wonderful alternative browser that has been gaining in popularity. We reccomend either of these browsers.

  • How do I view past issues?

Each issue has a volume and issue number. Type v#i# in the search on the "Search" page (on the menu if you have logged in) or in the "Search" field at the top of each page and press Enter. A list of articles from that issue will appear in the search results. For example, for the very first issue type:

    v1i1

We began reporting before officially publishing. To see articles prior to July 22, 2005 search on "v0i0" (vee zero eye zero).
